Make Your Story Matter

The Women Crossing Boundaries Foundation proudly co-sponsored a storytelling workshop led by the Chinese American Women in Leadership Youth Program (CAWA Youth). In collaboration with Naperville District 203 and local partners, this session focused on demystifying the U.S. college application process for high school students, with a particular focus on supporting immigrant and first-generation applicants.

Key Accomplishments:

  • Expert Guidance: Participants learned directly from Dr. Laura Perretta of Advanced Ivy Prep, who shared insights into what selective colleges value in applicants.

  • Narrative Development: Moving beyond traditional lectures, students worked in small groups to shape their personal stories into compelling essay concepts.

  • Holistic Skills: The workshop emphasized mental wellness, organization, and executive functioning to help students manage application anxiety.

  • Community Celebration: In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, attendees enjoyed light refreshments while building a supportive network of peers and mentors.

This interactive event empowered students to share their authentic experiences with confidence, providing them with the tools needed to navigate the transition to higher education.
